Coyotes Take 1st Game of Series Against Muskies
The Coyotes welcomed the Muskies to the barn in Omemee last night for the 1st game of the best-of-three Championship Series.
It was standing room only in the arena and the crowd was excited and ready for some great hockey action. We were all waiting on pins and needles for that first goal and after a scoreless first period, you could feel the tension and anticipation in the air. At 10:46 of the second period, Jackson Porter sent a beautiful pass up the middle through a couple of Muskies, to Sam Thurston who did his magic and scored the first goal of the game! The crowd erupts and the Coyotes are on the board. With 21 seconds left in the second period, Lindsay scores. The game is tied and you can feel that tension in the air again, heading into the third period. Lindsay comes out strong, they are not going down without a fight but Nash McGill is having none of that and he scores an unassisted goal with 7:42 left in the 3rd. Lindsay immediately draws a dirty 5 minute head contact major penalty (I missed this as I was too busy celebrating Nash's goal) but thankfully Evan is okay and the Lindsay player gets tossed. We were unable to score on that powerplay and with 2:16 left in the game, we draw the penalty this time and Lindsay is now on the powerplay. With a few close calls and saved shots, the Coyotes are holding them off but then Lindsay pulls their goalie and it's now 6 on 4. There's that tension in the air again!!! The Muskies have control of the play and they are fighting for their lives. A pass goes to one of their players who is about to take a shot right when our penalty ends at 0:16. Nash jumps off our bench, sneaks up from behind, steals the puck and sends it back down the ice and the crowd is on their feet!!! What a play!! Coyotes will win the 1st game of this series 2-1.
