Big Win Against Petrolia to Advance to Semis
Game 3 was Saturday at 3 PM against Petrolia Oilers who are ranked number 1 in Ontario. Coach Jeff said it best in his post when he said this was "a nail biter, heart stopper, sick to your stomach kind of game. Needed a win to advance to the semis".
Nash McGill scored first with 4:12 left in the first period with the assist going to Sam Thurston (Sorry not all assists noted). We were in the lead going into the second period but Petrolia scored at 9:51 and again on a power play with 4:12 left to go in the second. The fans were feeling pretty somber being down a goal for most of the third period. They were working so hard and definitely out playing the Petrolia team but the pucks weren't going in. There were just under 4 minutes left in the game and no one said it out loud but we all were thinking that this could potentially be the last game we get to watch our boys play together. Now, having said that, you can imagine how crazy we got when Nash scored to tie the game with 3:40 left to go in the game. So we're tied but we need to win to advance to semis. Our amazing coaches decide to pull Sully with about 2 minutes left in the game to gain that extra attacker. We're on our feet in anticipation, wondering and worrying how this will play out. Nash McGill scores the go ahead goal, with a hat trick, with 1:28 left in the game. The Kawartha fans explode while the boys hold them off to win the game, place first in their group and advance to the semi finals against the Napanee Stars!! It was an amazing moment, an amazing well fought, well deserved win for the boys. No surprise who gets the Player of the Game with his Hat Trick, our Captain, Nash McGill.
